It won‘t Cost the World to Save the Earth (Simultaneous Translation)

The latest assessment report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) shows that it does not have to cost the world to save the earth. To achieve this, however, all countries must immediately begin to protect the climate and use all technology options. Particularly important: the targets must be achieved efficiently with economic instruments such as CO2 pricing. Otherwise the costs of climate protection will rise massively. However, a look at the energy system transformation in Germany and climate policy in Europe makes it clear that economically efficient reduction strategies are not yet in sight. Coal phase-out, CO2 pricing, climate package – the German government’s comprehensive climate protection programme has opened the door to market-based climate protection. What is needed now is more market and competition in the energy turnaround.
