Capitalism needs Rules – Cartel Law and Digital Monopolies (Simultaneous Translation)

While digital platforms have intensified competition in many markets, the wobbly „winner-takes-all“ nature of these markets also increases the risk of foreclosure by large platforms. In particular, strategies that artificially impede users being active on multiple platforms should be examined by competition authorities before dominance is created. Moreover, access to certain data by third parties should in principle be easier than at present. In merger control there are good reasons for intensification with regard to so-called „killer acquistions“. However, a balance must be found to maintain incentives for innovation and start-ups. The current amendment to the GWB takes up many of these insights.
